journal response to "Just walk on by"

Appearance can be very deceiving and sometimes it causes us to be more cautious about who we associate with. People in general have basically steered clear of big men, men with a excessive amount of piercings and tattoos and also select races. Especially after 9/11, Arabs are stopped at air ports and other places to be asked questions just because of how they look.
some think that is is wrong to accuse everyone of a certain rave when that one person may be perfectly harmless. but some people go to far... i have a good friend whose father refuses to let her good friend into his home because he is Arab. Even though he was born in Iran, he was raised in america and he even grew up with the same spiritual beliefs as her family. Simply because of how he looks, he isn't aloud in the home.
I believe that as Americans, we should take precautions, but when we are dealing with people who are clearly not bad people, that is when we need to be more understanding and trusting.

response blog post #6 "Never Do That To a Book"

'Carnal readers' are people to love the books, but not for the appearance. They love them for their content and the experiences that they bring. They do no care if the book has become unbound, or the pages have been stained or bent. They don't care about the condition in anyway, as long as they have read it. But they do cherish the books greatly for their words and the things they learn from them.

'Courtly readers' are ones who love their books so much, that they will go to great lengths to preserve them. One example in the writing was that you are not supposed to put a book face down to preserve your place. This might harm the books. Some Courtly readers never even open books they buy for fear that it might harm the binding or bend the pages.
